About Us

Our Club

What started as a developer’s dream in the mid-1960s has grown into a swimming, tennis, fitness and social club on the south end of Mercer Island now owned and enjoyed by more than 800 families. The original Mercer Island Country Club facilities consisted of a swimming pool and four outdoor tennis courts. They were built and operated briefly by Edward Greenwood, developer of the adjacent shopping center and housing subdivision. He envisioned a hotel, gated residential community and other amenities that never won popular support or city approval. Island businessmen Vito Quaranta and Bill Brown led the effort to buy the pool and tennis courts from Greenwood. They and others organized a member-owned club that attracted about 300 families when it began in 1967. Over the years, the club has expanded and upgraded its facilities and programs to appeal to all ages and athletic abilities. Whether it’s junior tennis, masters swimming, TRX, yoga or tai chi, MICC has it all.
